This is an updated and revised second edition of a local Halesworth book specially commissioned by the Society. It is lavishly illustrated and includes more photographs than were in the first edition (published in 2018) and incudes maps. It is a unique history of the part played by Halesworth as a Transport Hub over very many years and contains references to the importance of the railway in Halesworth in relation to the main line with its links to London and East Suffolk and the (ultimately-failed) project to join Halesworth to the west via the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway. There is also extensive information about the 3 foot narrow gauge branch railway, which ran from Halesworth to Southwold between the years 1879 and 1929 (The Southwold Railway). The book also includes an account of the parts played by the River Blyth and the Blyth Navigation in linking the town to the sea in Southwold. The second edition also includes details and illustrations of the Society’s recent reconstructive industrial archaeology work on the original Southwold Railway trackbed which is within Halesworth Millennium Green, which is the largest such green in the country.
